What is the Global Valuation Alliance?

The GVA is a collaborative initiative bringing together valuation professional organisations worldwide to strengthen global consistency and public trust in valuation. It was established to advance a public-interest mission: to strengthen professional credentialing, increase consistency in valuation practice, and foster alignment in ethical and quality standards globally. By bringing greater coherence, comparability, and trust to valuation work, the GVA aims to support more resilient financial markets, more efficient capital allocation, and stronger investor protection.

Why is the GVA necessary at this point in time?

Today’s valuation landscape is fragmented across jurisdictions, asset classes, and VPOs. Differences in methodologies and credential requirements mean that similar assets are valued in materially different ways depending on where and by whom the work is performed. This diminishes comparability, creates friction in cross-border transactions, and reduces confidence in valuation services. Further, the valuation profession faces rapid growth of global funds, growing exposure to illiquid and hard-to-price assets (including private capital and real assets) and cross-border transactions, and heightened macroeconomic and market volatility. In conditions shaped by such complex factors, inconsistent valuation practices and professionalism standards can amplify uncertainty, create confusion, raise the cost of capital, impede capital formation, and weaken the transmission of monetary and prudential policy.  In November 2025, IOSCO (the International Organization of Securities Commissions) released a statement on the importance of high-quality valuation information in financial reporting, the result of 3 years studying valuation practices worldwide and working with the IVSC (International Valuation Standards Council). IOSCO identified shortcomings in valuation practices, specifically around consistency, methodology, and governance. It stressed the critical need for robust, objective, and transparent valuation to maintain investor confidence — calling for high-quality inputs and consistent standards, especially for illiquid assets.Despite the growing importance of valuation, no global body currently exists to coordinate and advance professionalism across jurisdictions and asset classes. The GVA seeks to address this gap.

What role does GVA play in the global valuation ecosystem?

Currently, there is no single body that represents, coordinates, and advances the valuation profession globally across jurisdictions and asset classes that is focused on the promotion of consistent professionalism in a holistic manner. That is, there is no global set of baseline expectations of what it means to be a valuer. To promote consistency in the profession, the GVA will establish baseline expectations (i.e., “professionalism frameworks”) to address core elements of valuation practice in each asset class, including: Entry requirements for a credentialing program.   Education programs or pathways in a credentialing program.  Technical and professional competency requirements. Membership obligations with respect to professional development, practice standards, and Codes of Ethics.   Oversight frameworks in terms of (proportionate) quality assurance, complaint investigation, and disciplinary procedures. The GVA is committed to working with other like-minded organisations and associations which also play a role in supporting the valuation profession in the public interest.

How does the GVA benefit the public interest?

A more unified and consistent profession would deliver clear benefits for consumers of valuation services, including regulators, standard setters, financial institutions, businesses, auditors, investors, and individuals.A common professionalism framework would enhance the reliability and comparability of valuations across financial reporting, prudential oversight, and transactions. Harmonized ethics and quality assurance requirements would bolster confidence that valuation conclusions are objective and fit for purpose. Increased consistency among VPOs would expand the global talent pool and make it easier to deploy specialists to where they are needed, including for new and complex asset classes such as data- and IP‑rich intangibles, infrastructure, and digital assets.A unified profession would simplify supervisory dialogue, reduce interpretive gaps, and provide a clearer counterpart for consultation on emerging risks. For market participants, this would translate into more transparent due diligence, faster execution, and fewer valuation disputes.

How does the GVA benefit VPOs?

The GVA will defend valuation as a distinct global profession and will protect the essential role of professional judgement and credentialed expertise.Membership and participation in a global body representing the valuation profession will be a mark of credibility to regulators, standard setters, governments, universities, employers, and potential future members. The GVA will represent hundreds of thousands of professional valuers worldwide and will be a strong global voice of the valuation profession. This will open doors to member VPOs, particularly mid-sized and smaller VPOs, who will get global reach without global infrastructure.It will facilitate cost-effective access to education, thought leadership, and governance expertise, including shared research, shared experts, shared working groups, and shared global outreach. In short, a VPO will get access to a global network that it could not otherwise afford or have access to.Importantly, the GVA will not be a VPO, and will not issue credentials, compete for members, or set technical standards. Each VPO will keep its brand, revenue, and national mandate.

Question 6

How does the GVA differ from the IVSC?

The IVSC recognises the complexities in today’s valuation ecosystem, and has been a key supporter of the GVA since its inception. The GVA and the IVSC will work closely together, but serve different purposes. The IVSC develops standards that valuators use (IVS – International Valuation Standards), while the GVA would unite and strengthen the organisations that represent valuators around the world by supporting alignment and consistency across professional frameworks. The GVA does not replace or compete with standard setters such as the IVSC, nor will it create a new set of technical or professional standards.

Will the GVA issue a credential?

No. The GVA will not grant designations or certifications to individuals, regulate or oversee practitioners directly, or replace or override VPOs. It is anticipated that the GVA will issue quality marks to VPOs that meet the baseline expectations as set out in the GVA’s professionalism frameworks, which are under development.

What stage of development is the GVA at?

The Global Valuation Alliance is currently in its founding/early-stage phase. We are actively building the coalition by engaging valuation professional organisations (VPOs) from around the world, establishing our governance framework, defining shared standards and priorities for the alliance, and obtaining feedback and input from regulators, standard setters, and other institutions with an interest in the valuation profession.The GVA has already secured support and participation from many mature and respected VPOs from around the world. We are still in the process of formalising our structure and the organisation itself. We will be collecting formal feedback in late 2026/ early 2027.We will share more detailed updates on milestones, governance, and member organisations as GVA continues to develop.
